Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. |

| Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. | Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. | If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! | So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him. |
| Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. | Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. |
| But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them. | But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments! |
| Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. | Who are you to condemn someone else’s servants? Their own master will judge whether they stand or fall. And with the Lord’s help, they will stand and receive his approval. |
| I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. | No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. |
| For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake. | For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. |
