| But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? | People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray. | Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. |
| Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. | Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. |
| So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me.” | Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.” |
| In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! | I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. |
| And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. | All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. |
| God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. | Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. |
| He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. | He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber. |
| Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil; joy fills hearts that are planning peace! | Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. |
| Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. | Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. |
| How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. | How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. |
| And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. | Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. |
