Why do bad things happen (2/4)

But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
O Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them.O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.”
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.
He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
But God has protected me right up to this present time so I can testify to everyone, from the least to the greatest. I teach nothing except what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and be the first to rise from the dead, and in this way announce God’s light to Jews and Gentiles alike. To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: that the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world.Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.
“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.”But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.”
For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass.

The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
