| And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? | Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? |
| And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. | And now why do you delay? Get up, be baptized, and have your sins washed away, calling on his name. |
| I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? | I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I look upon a virgin? |
| Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this. | Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. |

| And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. | While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” |
| I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass. | I, I am he who comforts you; why then are you afraid of a mere mortal who must die, a human being who fades like grass? |
| For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. | For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, busy with this very thing. |

| Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. | Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. |

| And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. | He answered, “Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” |
| And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. | If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. |
| For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. | So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. |
