| But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. | All you need to do is to say ‘Yes’ if you mean ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ if you mean ‘No.’ Anything beyond this comes from the evil one. |

| Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. | Repent, therefore, and be converted so that your sins may be wiped away. |
| Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. | Entrust everything that you do to the Lord, and your plans will turn out to be successful. |

| Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? | Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you? If he is not, then you have failed the test. |
| Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. | If you are angry, do not sin. Do not let the sun set on your anger, and do not give the devil an opening. |
