Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. | Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. |
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. | I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! |
|
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. | And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. |
And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. | And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. |
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. | Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. |
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. | And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. |
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. | May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. |
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. | Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints. |
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. | Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope. |
So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” | So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” |
But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. | But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. |
But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. | But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. |
