- A truthful witness does not lie,
but a false witness lies incessantly. - Then keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies. - You are from your father, the devil,
and you choose to carry out your father’s desires.
He was a murderer from the beginning,
and he does not abide by the truth,
for there is no truth in him.
When he lies,
he speaks in accord with his own nature,
for he is a liar
and the father of lies. - Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze on what lies before you. - He reveals deep and hidden mysteries
and knows what lies in the darkness,
for light dwells with him. - Keep falsehood and lying far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but simply provide me with the food that I need. - These are the words of the Lord of hosts:
Stand at the crossroads and look around;
ask for the ancient paths.
When you are shown where the good way lies,
walk along it and your souls will find rest.
However, they said, “We will not take it.” - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that weighs us down and the sins that so easily distract us and with perseverance run the race that lies ahead of us.
- Fine words are not becoming to a fool,
and much less are false words to a noble. - For:
“If anyone wishes to love life
and to experience good days,
he must restrain his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn away from evil and do good,
seek peace and pursue it.” - God gave the midwives numerous families because they had feared God.
- The fear of the Lord implies hatred of evil;
I hate pride and arrogance,
evil ways and perverse speech. - And let us consider how to spur one another to love and good works. Do not neglect to attend your assemblies, as some do, but rather encourage one another, especially since you can see the Day approaching.
- You shall keep these things that I command you today in your heart. Teach them to your children. You shall talk of them when you are sitting in your home, and when you are walking along the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
- When you fix your gaze upon it,
it is gone before you realize it.
For it suddenly sprouts wings
and flies up to the sky like an eagle.
Each of us must consider his neighbor’s good for the purpose of building him up. Finally, brethren, let your minds be filled with whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, whatever is excellent, whatever is worthy of praise.Next verse!With image
