Bible Verses about Anger
- “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
- Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
- Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt. Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
- Hatred stirs up conflict,
but love covers over all wrongs. - A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger. - My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
- Whoever is patient has great understanding,
but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. - He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
- Fools give full vent to their rage,
but the wise bring calm in the end. - Fools show their annoyance at once,
but the prudent overlook an insult. - Where there is strife, there is pride,
but wisdom is found in those who take advice. - It is to one’s honor to avoid strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel. - See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
- ‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares the Lord,
‘I will frown on you no longer,
for I am faithful,’ declares the Lord,
‘I will not be angry forever.’ - The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
- Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
