“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?”Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.
And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning”Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.
Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks.I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
For forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry.Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
