Bible Verses about Greed

  • The lover of money will not be satisfied with money; nor the lover of wealth, with gain. This also is vanity.
  • But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
  • And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”
  • For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.
  • For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
  • Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.
  • All day long the wicked covet,
but the righteous give and do not hold back.
  • Wealth hastily gotten will dwindle,
but those who gather little by little will increase it.
  • As they came from their mother's womb, so they shall go again, naked as they came; they shall take nothing for their toil, which they may carry away with their hands.
  • Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
    be wise enough to desist.
  • No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
  • Turn my heart to your decrees,
    and not to selfish gain.
  • Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
  • Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.
  • You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
  • But fornication and impurity of any kind, or greed, must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints.
  • For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, busy with this very thing.

Do not adorn yourselves outwardly by braiding your hair, and by wearing gold ornaments or fine clothing; rather, let your adornment be the inner self with the lasting beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God's sight.Next verse! With image
