Bible Verses about Selfishness

  • Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.
  • Do not seek your own advantage, but that of the other.
  • Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.
  • For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind.
  • A generous person will be enriched,
and one who gives water will get water.
  • Each of us must please our neighbor for the good purpose of building up the neighbor.
  • A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing personal opinion.
  • The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.
  • Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise.
  • Turn my heart to your decrees,
    and not to selfish gain.
  • And it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
  • But I do not count my life of any value to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God's grace.
  • He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”
