Bible Verses about Debt
- The wicked borrow and do not pay back,
but the righteous are generous and keep giving. - Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
- Pay to all what is due them: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
- The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is the slave of the lender. - Give to everyone who asks of you, and if anyone takes away what is yours, do not ask for it back again.
- When the Lord your God has blessed you, as he promised you, you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow; you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.
- For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it?
- Wealth hastily gotten will dwindle,
but those who gather little by little will increase it. - And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. - Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to do it. - Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he himself has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
- No one can serve two masters, for a slave will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
