Bearing much fruit (2/3)

  • How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God!
  • Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
  • Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
    whose trust is the Lord.
    They shall be like a tree planted by water,
    sending out its roots by the stream.
    It shall not fear when heat comes,
    and its leaves shall stay green;
    in the year of drought it is not anxious,
    and it does not cease to bear fruit.
  • But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many.
  • Take words with you
    and return to the Lord;
    say to him,
    “Take away all guilt;
    accept that which is good,
    and we will offer
    the fruit of our lips.”
  • The heart is devious above all else;
    it is perverse—
    who can understand it?
    I the Lord test the mind
    and search the heart,
    to give to all according to their ways,
    according to the fruit of their doings.
  • If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
  • Though the fig tree does not blossom,
    and no fruit is on the vines;
    though the produce of the olive fails
    and the fields yield no food;
    though the flock is cut off from the fold
    and there is no herd in the stalls,
    yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    I will exult in the God of my salvation.
  • But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life.
  • And ‘to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,’ and ‘to love one's neighbor as oneself,’—this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
  • Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
  • Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.
  • But Jesus has now obtained a more excellent ministry, and to that degree he is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted through better promises.
  • As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing.
  • If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
  • But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.
  • Better is a little with righteousness
    than large income with injustice.
  • Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
  • When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.
  • Then the Lord God said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
  • His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’
  • And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
  • But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’
  • Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
  • So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
    it shall not return to me empty,
    but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
    and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

As they came from their mother's womb, so they shall go again, naked as they came; they shall take nothing for their toil, which they may carry away with their hands.
