- The depths of the sea resound
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and your breakers
sweep over me. - He reveals deep and hidden mysteries
and knows what lies in the darkness,
for light dwells with him. - However, God has revealed these things to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit explores everything, even the depths of God.
- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and barren, and darkness covered the abyss while the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.
- The whispers of a gossiper are tasty morsels
that corrode one’s inner being. - Above all, maintain the fervor of your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
- In the same way, even the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs that cannot be put into words.
- My son, concentrate attentively on my words;
pay heed to the instructions I pass on to you.
Do not let them slip from your mind;
keep them forever in your heart. - I am now about to go the way of all upon the earth. You know very well in your hearts and your souls that not one of the good things that the Lord, your God, promised you has failed to take place. Every promise has been fulfilled, not one of them has been broken.
- Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you;
fasten them around your neck
and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will gain favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man. - When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
nor will the waters engulf you.
When you walk through fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not consume you. - Blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and whose hope is the Lord.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that spreads out its roots to the stream.
When the heat comes, it does not fear;
its leaves stay green.
It is not concerned in a year of drought,
and it never fails to bear fruit. - He was despised and shunned by others,
a man of sorrows who was no stranger to suffering.
We loathed him and regarded him as of no account,
as one from whom men avert their gaze.
It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior,
one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city.
