| For the customs of the peoples are vanity. A tree from the forest is cut down and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman. They decorate it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so that it cannot move. Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good. | For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. | Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty. | Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty. |

| Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. | Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. |
| Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? | Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? |
| Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. | Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off. |
| But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. | But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. |
| Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? | Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? |
| In you, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me! | In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. |
