| Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. | Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord. He entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread that only the priests were permitted to eat, and he shared it with his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” |
| So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. | He proclaimed his covenant to you which he ordered you to fulfill, the Ten Commandments, that he wrote upon two tablets of stone. |

| For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God. | It is the will of God that you should lead a life of sanctity. | And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. | God chose those in the world who were lowly and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who were regarded as worthy, so that no one could boast in the presence of God. |
| The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, But the poor does not hear rebuke. | A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats. |
| Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool, Much less lying lips to a prince. | Fine words are not becoming to a fool, and much less are false words to a noble. |
| Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! | Do not wear yourself out in the pursuit of wealth, and cease even to think about it. |
| He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. | He has made everything suitable for its time, and he has given men a sense of past and future, but they never have the slightest comprehension of what God has wrought from beginning to end. |
| My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. | Even should my heart and my flesh fail, God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever. |
| A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is! | A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season. |
