Giving to the needy (3/4)

  • And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
  • For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.
  • The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous
    and his ears toward their cry.
  • In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.
  • Take with you words
    and return to the Lord;
    say to him,
    “Take away all iniquity;
    accept what is good,
    and we will pay with bulls
    the vows of our lips.”
  • Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
  • He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
  • So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
  • The rich rules over the poor,
    and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
  • For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
  • And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
  • And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
  • I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.
  • May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.
  • Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him, and he will act.
    He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
    and your justice as the noonday.
  • But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
  • Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
    O Lord, hear my voice!
    Let your ears be attentive
    to the voice of my pleas for mercy!
  • I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.
  • Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
  • Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
  • Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
  • Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”
  • Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
  • Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.
  • And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

Do not envy a man of violence
and do not choose any of his ways,
for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord,
but the upright are in his confidence.
