I have told you this so that in me you may be in peace. In the world you will endure suffering. But take courage! I have overcome the world. | These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. |
In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? | In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. |
|
In that way, I can come to you in joy, if God so wills, and be refreshed together with you. | That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. |
I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah | I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah. |
Call to me and I will answer you and reveal to you great and mysterious secrets about which you are unaware. | Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. |
I, I alone, am the one who comforts you. Why then do you fear mortal men who must die, human beings who must perish like grass? | I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass. |
At dawn let me experience your kindness, for in you I place my trust. Show me the path I must walk, for to you I lift up my soul. | Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. |
I will rejoice and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. | I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. |
Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved; you are the one whom I praise. | Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise. |
I will praise you in sincerity of heart as I ponder your righteous judgments. | I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. |
For I know full well the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for your misfortune, plans that will offer you a future filled with hope. | For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. |
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and utter all kinds of calumnies against you for my sake. | Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. |
Then I acknowledged my sin to you, and I made no attempt to conceal my guilt. I said, “I will confess my offenses to the Lord,” and you removed the guilt of my sin. Selah | I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. |
Where can I go to hide from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I take my rest in the netherworld, you are also there. | Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. |
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. | These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. |
I will extol you, my God and King; I will bless your name forever and ever. | I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. |
I will give thanks to you among the peoples, O Lord; I will sing your praises among the nations. | I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations. |
You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. | Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. |
For I resolved that, while I was with you, I would know nothing except Jesus Christ—and him crucified. | For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. |
I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing. | I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. |
Adulterers! Do you not know that love of the world results in enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a lover of the world makes himself an enemy of God. | Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. |
When I sing to you, my lips will rejoice, and so will my soul, which you have redeemed. | My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed. |
You shall keep these things that I command you today in your heart. Teach them to your children. You shall talk of them when you are sitting in your home, and when you are walking along the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up. | And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. |
I have given you a command. Be strong and brave, do not be afraid nor dismayed. I, the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go. | Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. |
I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I do ask you to protect them from the evil one. | I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. |
