John 14 (2/4)

  • When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.
  • Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
  • And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment.
  • Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
  • I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father.
  • I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world!
  • And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
  • I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one.
  • Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
  • I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.
  • When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
  • Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
  • Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”
  • Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
  • Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”
  • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  • All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being.
  • The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
  • But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.
  • And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
  • No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.
  • I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
  • Jesus answered him, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.”
  • Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.”
  • What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
