Last days (2/3)

  • You shall observe the Sabbath by keeping it holy, as the Lord, your God, has commanded you. You are to labor on six days, doing all of your work then. The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord, your God. You shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor your cattle, nor even the foreigner living in your town. Thus your manservant and maidservant can rest as well.
  • When you call out to me and come forth and pray to me, I will listen to you.
  • On one Sabbath as Jesus was teaching in the synagogue, a woman was present, possessed by a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and completely unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.” Then he laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.

But the leader of the synagogue was indignant because Jesus had effected a cure on the Sabbath, and he said to the assembled people, “There are six days when work is permitted. Come on those days and be cured, and not on the Sabbath.” The Lord said to him in reply, “You hypocrites! Is there a single one of you who does not untie his ox or his donkey and lead it from its stall to give it water on the Sabbath? Should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has held bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the Sabbath?” At these words, all his adversaries were put to shame, and the people rejoiced at all the wonderful things he was doing.
  • Continue in all of the ways that the Lord, your God, has commanded you. Continue in them so that you may live and prosper and that you may long dwell on the land of your inheritance.
  • Our temporary light afflictions are preparing for us an incomparable weight of eternal glory.
  • Everyone who seeks a prize submits himself to rigorous self-discipline in every respect. They do so to win a perishable crown, while we seek an imperishable one.
  • The labors of the wicked man produce little profit,
but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
  • You did not choose me.
    Rather, I chose you.
    And I appointed you
to go out and bear fruit,
    fruit that will remain,
so that the Father may give you
whatever you ask him in my name.
  • I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have life.
  • After Jesus had been born in Bethlehem of Judea during the reign of King Herod, wise men traveled from the east and arrived in Jerusalem, inquiring, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw the rising of his star, and we have come to pay him homage.”
  • Observe my Sabbaths and stand in awe before my sanctuary. I am the Lord.
  • You shall obey his statutes and the commandments that I give you today, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord, your God, has given you for all time.
  • Thus there are three things that endure: faith, hope, and love,
and the greatest of these is love.
  • Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting,
but the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
  • For everything that was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that by perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we may continue to have hope.
  • The Lord God then formed a woman out of the rib that he had taken from the man. He brought her before the man.
    The man said,
“This one is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh.
    She shall be called woman
because she was taken from man.”
This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and joins with a wife, and the two become one flesh.
  • But from you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
among the tiniest of the clans of Judah,
from you will come forth for me
one who is to be a ruler in Israel,
one whose origins are from the distant past,
    from ancient times.
  • The time of fulfillment has arrived, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.
  • Therefore, do not allow anyone to pass judgment on you in regard to what you eat or drink, or about the observance of Festivals, New Moons, or Sabbaths. These are only a shadow of what is to come. The reality is Christ.
  • You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.
  • Until a spirit from on high
    is poured out upon us,
and the wilderness becomes an orchard
and the fruitful field becomes a forest.
  • In it the righteousness of God is revealed, beginning in faith and established in faith. As it is written: “The one who is righteous will live through faith.”
  • I, the Lord, am your God. You must obey my laws and be careful to observe my ordinances. Keep holy my Sabbaths as a sign between me and you so that you will know that I am the Lord, your God.
  • And now, brethren, farewell. Mend your ways. Encourage one another. Be of one mind and live in peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
  • For our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal.

How much more valuable a man is than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
