Man (2/4)

A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats. The ransom of a man's life is his wealth, but a poor man hears no threat.
As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the wits of his neighbor.Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Jesus answered, “As it is written: ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’ ”But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
The fear of others will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is secure. The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
In my anguish I cried out; the Lord heard my plea, and I was saved from all my troubles. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.
A perverse man sows strife, and a tale-bearer destroys close friendships.A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his very life? For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
I, I alone, am the one who comforts you. Why then do you fear mortal men who must die, human beings who must perish like grass?I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass.
But from the very beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh.’ And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate. But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
A fool gives free rein to his anger, but a wise man bides his time and calms it.A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.
With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid. What can mortals do to me?The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
A good man produces good from the store of goodness in his heart, whereas an evil man produces evil from the store of evil within him. For the mouth speaks from the abundance of the heart. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death. There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
A man’s attraction is his kindness; it is far better to be poor than to be a liar. What is desired in a man is steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar.
A man is haughty until disaster overtakes him, but humility comes before honors. Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.
So if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out there. If they say, ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For just as lightning comes from the east and is visible even in the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
The Lord God made clothing for the man and woman out of animal skins and he clothed them. And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his very life? Or what can he give in exchange for his life? For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet?Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?
A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season. To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is!
Alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his precepts.Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!
A patient man shows good sense, but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly.Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.
He replied, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said: ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh’? And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Thus you could understand that the Lord, your God, was disciplining you, just like a father disciplines his son.Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you.

Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised to life.See, we are going up to Jerusalem.
