| The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats. | A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. |
| A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. | The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. |
| Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and doesn’t sin. | Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins. |

| Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers. | Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers. |
