Rather (2/3)

  • So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
  • I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
  • Better a patient person than a warrior,
    one with self-control than one who takes a city.
  • Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
  • Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
  • Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.”
  • But let justice roll on like a river,
    righteousness like a never-failing stream!
  • Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
  • I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
  • But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
  • On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”
  • Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
  • Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
  • Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  • He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
  • But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
  • Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
  • No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
  • For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
  • No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.
  • When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
    in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.
  • Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
    to loose the chains of injustice
    and untie the cords of the yoke,
    to set the oppressed free
    and break every yoke?
  • You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
  • It was not by their sword that they won the land,
    nor did their arm bring them victory;
    it was your right hand, your arm,
    and the light of your face, for you loved them.

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
