| Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. | Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. |
| But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. | But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. | Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. | You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. |
| The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. | The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry. |
| Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. | Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. |
