What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? | What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? |
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. | And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. |

For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. | There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. |
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? | Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? |
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? | Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. |
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. | But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. |
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. | I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. |
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. | I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. |
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. | This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. |
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. | I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. |
Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. | Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. |
Judge not, that ye be not judged. | Do not judge, or you too will be judged. |
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. | And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. |
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us. | This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. |
Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess. | Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. |
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. | So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world” and that “There is no God but one.” |
O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. | Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. |
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. | I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. |
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. | I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. |
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. | Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. |
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. | And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. |
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. | If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. |
Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. | Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. |
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. | I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. |
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. | If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. |
