Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. | Place your hope in the Lord: be strong and courageous in your heart, and place your hope in the Lord. |
I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. | I wait for the Lord in anxious expectation; I place my hope in his word. |
|
But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. | But if we hope for what we do not yet see, then we wait for it with patience. |
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. | In God alone be at rest, O my soul; it is from him that my hope comes. |
Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. | But as for me, I will look to the Lord. I place my hope in God my savior; my God will hear me. |
And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him. | But even so the Lord is waiting to be gracious to you, and he will rise up to grant you his compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. |
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. | Wait quietly for the Lord and be patient until he comes. Do not fret over the man who prospers because of his evil schemes. |
Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. | Guide me in your truth and instruct me, for you are God, my Savior, and in you I hope all the day long. |
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. | Those who place their hope in the Lord will regain their strength. They will soar as with eagles’ wings, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not become faint. |
Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. | As we proceed in the path of your judgments, we wait for you, O Lord; your name and your renown are all that our heart desires. |
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord. | Be strong and courageous in your hearts, all you who place your hope in the Lord. |
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. | And now, what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized, and have your sins washed away, calling on his name. |
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. | O Lord, at daybreak you hear my voice; at daybreak I bring my petition before you and await your reply. |
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. | But our citizenship is in heaven, and from there we await our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. | In God alone is my soul at rest; it is from him that my salvation comes. |
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. | The Lord is my portion, I say to myself; therefore, I will place my hope in him. |
And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them. | The Lord said to Moses, “Climb up to me on the mountain and remain there. I will give you stone tablets with the laws and commandments that I have written for their instruction.” |
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. | So Christ, having been offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him. |
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. | For everything that was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that by perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we may continue to have hope. |
