If anyone is rich in worldly possessions and sees a brother in need but refuses to open his heart, how can the love of God abide in him? | But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him? |
However, whoever lives by the truth comes to the light so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been done in God. | But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God. |
If anyone wishes to serve me, he must follow me. Where I am, there also will my servant be. If anyone serves me, my Father will honor that person. | If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. |
In love there is no fear; indeed, perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not yet achieved perfection in love. | There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. |
A patient man shows good sense, but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly. | One who is slow to anger has great understanding; But one who is quick-tempered exalts foolishness. |
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world. | I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I will give for the life of the world also is My flesh. |
We have come to know and to believe in the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him. | We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. |
And whoever does not provide for relatives, especially for those who are living with him, has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. | But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. |
I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing. | I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. |
Anyone who has received my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. Let those who are wise understand these words, and let the prudent acknowledge them. For straight are the ways of the Lord; the upright walk in them, but sinners stumble. | Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the Lord are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But wrongdoers will stumble in them. |
Remember this: if you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly, and if you sow generously, you will reap generously as well. | Now I say this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows generously will also reap generously. |
He then called the people and his disciples to him and said to them, “Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” | And He summoned the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.” |
If someone says, “I love God,” but at the same time hates his brother, he is a liar. For whoever does not love the brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. | If someone says, “I love God,” and yet he hates his brother or sister, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. |
I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be saved. He will go in and out and will find pasture. | I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. |
One who forgives a misdeed fosters friendship, but he who divulges it separates good friends. | One who conceals an offense seeks love, But one who repeats a matter separates close friends. |
Jesus addressed them once again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The one who follows me will never walk in darkness. Rather, he will have the light of life.” | Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” |
Everyone who sins breaks the law, for sin is lawlessness. | Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. |
Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, you should arm yourselves also with the same intention. For anyone who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin. | Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. |
One who finds a wife finds happiness and receives favor from the Lord. | He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the Lord. |
Jesus answered him, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our abode with him.” | Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.” |
A generous person will be enriched; he who refreshes others will also be refreshed. | A generous person will be prosperous, And one who gives others plenty of water will himself be given plenty. |
Like a city that has been breached and made defenseless is the man devoid of self-control. | Like a city that is broken into and without walls So is a person who has no self-control over his spirit. |
Jesus replied, “Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.” | Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.” |
Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not demand the return of what is yours from the one who has taken it. | Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. |
