- Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?”
For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. - Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
- Do not toil to acquire wealth;
be discerning enough to desist. - Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones. - For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
- The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple. - For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.
