- Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
- Do not overwork to be rich;
Because of your own understanding, cease! - Do not say,
“Why were the former days better than these?”
For you do not inquire wisely concerning this. - Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones. - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
- The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. - For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.
