| For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. | For the Lord takes delight in his people, and he crowns the humble with salvation. |

| If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. | If we claim that we have fellowship with him while we continue to live in darkness, we are lying and do not live in the truth. |
| And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever. |
| An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered. | With his mouth the godless man seeks to ruin his neighbor, but knowledge enables the righteous to be delivered. |
| For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. | For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall also be united with him in his resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be destroyed and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. |

| For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. | For the carved images of the nations are powerless; they are nothing more than wood cut from a forest, fashioned with a knife by craftsmen and embellished with silver and gold. Then they are fastened with hammers and nails to prevent them from toppling. Like scarecrows in a cucumber field they are unable to speak, and they must be carried from place to place since they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they can do no harm, nor do they have any power to do good. |
| And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. | Then the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. |
| He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. | With his feathers he will shelter you, and you will take refuge under his wings; his faithfulness serves as a protective shield. |
