Him (3/4)

  • After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
  • But when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
  • While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
  • We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
  • For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
  • But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
  • As for God, his way is perfect:
    The Lord’s word is flawless;
    he shields all who take refuge in him.
  • ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
  • As for God, his way is perfect:
    The Lord’s word is flawless;
    he shields all who take refuge in him.
  • I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
  • The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
  • Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
    extol him who rides on the clouds;
    rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.
    A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
    is God in his holy dwelling.
  • Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.
  • I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.
  • Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.”
  • For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
  • And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
  • While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
  • For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
  • For the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.
  • But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.
  • He reveals deep and hidden things;
    he knows what lies in darkness,
    and light dwells with him.
  • “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
  • The father of a righteous child has great joy;
    a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.
  • The righteous person may have many troubles,
    but the Lord delivers him from them all.

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
