Bible Verses about Greed

  • He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
  • But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
  • And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
  • For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

  • Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished:
    but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
  • He coveteth greedily all the day long:
    but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
  • As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
  • Labour not to be rich:
    cease from thine own wisdom.
  • No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
  • Incline my heart unto thy testimonies,
    and not to covetousness.
  • Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
  • Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
  • But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.
  • For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
  • Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
