| My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. | My son, do not ignore the Lord’s discipline or refuse to accept his rebuke. For the Lord disciplines those whom he loves, just as a father chastises a beloved son. |
| As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. | I reprove and discipline all those whom I love. Therefore, be sincere in your desire to repent. |

| A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. | The prudent man perceives danger and seeks shelter, while the simple continue forward and pay the penalty. |

| But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. | But the one who did not know those wishes, and who acted in such a manner as to deserve a beating, will be beaten less severely. Much will be demanded of a person to whom much has been given, and even more will be asked of a person to whom more has been entrusted. |
| Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. | Repent and renounce all your transgressions. Otherwise your iniquity will prove to be your downfall. |
| There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. | In love there is no fear; indeed, perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not yet achieved perfection in love. |

| Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. | You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain, for the Lord will not consider blameless those who take his name in vain. |
| Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee. | Thus you could understand that the Lord, your God, was disciplining you, just like a father disciplines his son. |
| He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. | Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. |
| He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. | Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but he who mingles with fools will suffer harm. |
| I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. | No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. |
| But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. | Above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth, or use any oaths at all. Let your “Yes” mean “Yes” and your “No” mean “No.” Otherwise you may be condemned. |
| There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. | Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. | Preach the message; be persistent in doing so, whether in season or out of season; convince, reprove, and encourage, but with great patience and instruction. |
| God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. | He gives a home to those who are forsaken and leads out prisoners amid chants of exultation, while rebels are forced to live in an arid land. |
| The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. | The Lord watches over the stranger and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he blocks the way of the wicked. |
| But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. | However, the gift is not like the transgression. For if the transgression of one man led to the death of the many, how much greater was the overflowing effect of the grace of God and the gift of the one man Jesus Christ that has abounded for the many. |
| Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. | Therefore, I tell you that every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. |
| Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death. | Riches will be of no avail on the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. |
| Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. | Because the sentence for committing an evil act is not carried out quickly, people’s hearts are prone to act wickedly. |
