| Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! | If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. | For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. |
| The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. | The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. |

| Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. | For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. |
