- I wait for the Lord in anxious expectation;
I place my hope in his word. - In God, whose word I praise,
in God I place my trust and know no fear;
what can people do to me? - Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them.
- If your brother should sin, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Even if he wrongs you seven times a day, and comes back to you seven times to say, ‘I am sorry,’ you must forgive him.
- You shall obey his statutes and the commandments that I give you today, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord, your God, has given you for all time.
- I will not leave you orphans;
I will come to you. - A word is not even on my tongue
and you, O Lord, are completely aware of it. - In God alone be at rest, O my soul;
it is from him that my hope comes. - For thus says the One who is high and exalted,
who lives eternally
and whose name is holy:
I dwell in a high and holy place
but I am with the contrite and the humble,
to revive the spirit of the humble
and to revive the heart of the contrite. - “All things are lawful,” you may say—but not all things are beneficial. All things may be lawful—but not all things are constructive.
- When I realized that my foot was slipping,
your kindness, O Lord, raised me up. - “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not allow myself to be dominated by anything.
- Bless the Lord, O my soul;
my entire being, bless his holy name. - If you heed the voice of the Lord, your God, and you carefully observe all of the commandments that I have given you today, then the Lord, your God, will lift you up above all the other nations upon the earth.
- Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
- I rejoice in the Lord with all my heart;
my soul exults in my God.
For he has clothed me in garments of salvation
and wrapped me in a robe of saving justice,
like a bridegroom adorned with a garland
or a bride bedecked with her jewels. - You shall keep these things that I command you today in your heart. Teach them to your children. You shall talk of them when you are sitting in your home, and when you are walking along the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
- Even if an army encamps against me,
my heart will not succumb to fear;
even if war breaks out against me,
I will not have my trust shaken. - Can someone hide in a secret place
so that I cannot see him?
Do I not fill heaven and earth? - I give you a new commandment:
love one another.
Just as I have loved you,
so you should also love one another. - But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for I bring you good news of great joy for all the people.”
- Why are you so disheartened, O my soul?
Why do you sigh within me?
Place your hope in God;
for I will once again praise him,
my Savior and my God. - At dawn let me experience your kindness,
for in you I place my trust.
Show me the path I must walk,
for to you I lift up my soul. - Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives
do I give it to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled;
be not afraid. - To anyone who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, as I myself overcame and sat with my Father on his throne.
