Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. | Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword. |
He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. | Whoever heeds admonition is on the path to life, but anyone who rejects correction goes astray. |
The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. | The way of the Lord is a stronghold for the upright, but destruction for evildoers. |
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. | Rather, let justice flow like a river, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. |
But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. | However, the Lord is faithful. He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. |
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established. | Plans miscarry when counsel is lacking, but they succeed when there are many counselors. |
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. | For the wages of sin is death, but the gift freely given by God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. | For sin is no longer to have any power over you, since you are not under the Law but under grace. |

Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. | Welcome anyone whose faith is weak, but do not get into arguments about doubts. |
Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. | Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but those who counsel peace have joy. |
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. | I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I do ask you to protect them from the evil one. |
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. | But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. |
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness. | The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness, but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. |
