- Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

all whose thoughts are fixed on you! - All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.
- Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us.
- Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God. - But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you. - And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
- Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
- Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.
- But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!
- And he went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side. The rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.’

for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe. - For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.
- So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father.
- Fools have no interest in understanding;
they only want to air their own opinions.
