Bible Verses about 'Desires'

  • Delight yourself in the Lord;
    And He will give you the desires of your heart.
  • But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction.
  • But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
  • But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
  • It is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant, and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your slave.
  • For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.
  • You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
  • For,
    “The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
    Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
    He must turn away from evil and do good;
    He must seek peace and pursue it.”
  • For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and in a godly manner in the present age.
  • The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God continues to live forever.
  • For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.
  • For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, this is the one who will save it.
  • For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
  • Therefore, treat the parts of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
  • And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
  • Through these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world on account of lust.
  • May He grant you your heart’s desire
    And fulfill your whole plan!
  • For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
  • For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
  • What is desirable in a person is his kindness,
    And it is better to be a poor person than a liar.
  • For those who are in accord with the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are in accord with the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
  • That they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit.
  • Behold, as for the impudent one,
    His soul is not right within him;
    But the righteous one will live by his faith.
  • For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.
  • And sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”

Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, Lord,
We have waited for You eagerly;
Your name, and remembering You, is the desire of our souls.
