Bible Verses about 'Desires'

  • Take delight in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.
  • Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh.
  • Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
  • For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want.
  • But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
  • You are from your father the devil, and you choose to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
  • It will not be so among you, but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave.
  • And the world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God abide forever.
  • To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
  • For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.
  • For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.
  • Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
  • Then he said to them all, “If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
  • Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust and may become participants of the divine nature.
  • May he grant you your heart’s desire
    and fulfill all your plans.
  • For all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world.
  • For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
  • What is desirable in a person is loyalty,
    and it is better to be poor than a liar.
  • For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
  • For
    “Those who desire to love life
    and to see good days,
    let them keep their tongues from evil
    and their lips from speaking deceit;
    let them turn away from evil and do good;
    let them seek peace and pursue it.”
  • For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly.
  • For they said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts.” It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions.
  • Look at the proud!
    Their spirit is not right in them,
    but the righteous live by their faithfulness.
  • For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.
  • He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.”
  • In the path of your judgments,
    O Lord, we have placed hope;
    your name and your renown
    are the soul’s desire.
  • Shun youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
  • They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. Their females exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the males, giving up natural intercourse with females, were consumed with their passionate desires for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to an unfit mind and to do things that should not be done.
  • And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
  • I am hard pressed between the two: my desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better, but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you.

  • Indeed, the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
  • Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
  • If you refrain from trampling the Sabbath,
    from pursuing your own interests on my holy day;
    if you call the Sabbath a delight
    and the holy day of the Lord honorable;
    if you honor it, not going your own ways,
    serving your own interests or pursuing your own affairs;
    then you shall take delight in the Lord,
    and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth;
    I will feed you with the heritage of your ancestor Jacob,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
