- When pride comes, then comes disgrace;
but wisdom is with the humble. - The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and perverted speech I hate. - Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are.
- A person's pride will bring humiliation,
but one who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor. - “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” For it is not those who commend themselves that are approved, but those whom the Lord commends.
- But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
- Before destruction one's heart is haughty,
but humility goes before honor. - And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
- For all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world.
- God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God.
- Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven,
for all his works are truth,
and his ways are justice;
and he is able to bring low
those who walk in pride. - Let the believer who is lowly boast in being raised up, and the rich in being brought low, because the rich will disappear like a flower in the field.
- As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
- If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
- When I fed them, they were satisfied;
they were satisfied, and their heart was proud;
therefore they forgot me.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
