| For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. | For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. |

| Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. | Get wisdom; get insight: do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. |
| The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. | The wicked earn no real gain, but those who sow righteousness get a true reward. |

| For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them. | For not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm give them victory; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, for you delighted in them. |
| For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. | Am I now seeking human approval, or God's approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ. |
