- For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.
- For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?
- Incline my heart to Your testimonies,
And not to dishonest gain. - So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom. - Do not weary yourself to gain wealth;
Stop dwelling on it. - For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul?
- And if I give away all my possessions to charity, and if I surrender my body so that I may glory, but do not have love, it does me no good.
- Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary. - One who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor one who loves abundance with its income. This too is futility.
- A person’s pride will bring him low,
But a humble spirit will obtain honor. - Blessed is a person who finds wisdom,
And one who obtains understanding. - Better is a little with righteousness
Than great income with injustice. - Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding!
Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. - A wicked person earns deceptive wages,
But one who sows righteousness gets a true reward. - When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look at them?
- Do not let kindness and truth leave you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and a good reputation
In the sight of God and man. - For by their own sword they did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence,
For You favored them. - For am I now seeking the favor of people, or of God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
- I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because Abraham obeyed Me and fulfilled his duty to Me, and kept My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.
A prudent person sees evil and hides himself;
But the naive proceed, and pay the penalty.
