Gave (2/2)

  • Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!
  • Before the mountains were born,
    before you gave birth to the earth and the world,
    from beginning to end, you are God.
  • But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.
  • We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
  • God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
  • And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.
  • For the Lord gave us this command when he said,
    ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles,
    to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.’
  • I have given them to you for food, just as I have given you grain and vegetables. But you must never eat any meat that still has the lifeblood in it.
  • For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
  • If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.
  • Now a mediator is helpful if more than one party must reach an agreement. But God, who is one, did not use a mediator when he gave his promise to Abraham.
  • But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!
  • For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
  • Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.
  • One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat. But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?” Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”
  • But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
  • They did not conquer the land with their swords;
    it was not their own strong arm that gave them victory.
    It was your right hand and strong arm
    and the blinding light from your face that helped them,
    for you loved them.
  • Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last.
  • Though he was God,
    he did not think of equality with God
    as something to cling to.
    Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
    he took the humble position of a slave
    and was born as a human being.
    When he appeared in human form,
    he humbled himself in obedience to God
    and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
  • You have given me your shield of victory.
    Your right hand supports me;
    your help has made me great.
    You have made a wide path for my feet
    to keep them from slipping.
  • I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.
  • For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.
  • Soon I will die, going the way of everything on earth. Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed!
