When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it. | For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law. |
For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. | Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. |
|
Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.” | What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. |
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. | Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. |
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. | The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. |
Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. | Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. |
Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. | Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. |
God detests the prayers of a person who ignores the law. | He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination. |
Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! | What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. |
For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” | For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God. | For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. |
I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart. | I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. |
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. | For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. |
You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law. | We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. |
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. | Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. |
Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. | Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. |
Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble. | Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. |
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. | Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. |
I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. | I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. |
Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. | Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. |
For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. | Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. |
In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. | And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. |
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. | But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. |
But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. | But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference. |
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. | There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. |
