Mankind (4/4)

A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends.
There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.
Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. So also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts.People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means.
A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion.Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.
It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel.Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility.Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.
So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.
This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.
A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; The simple pass on and are punished.A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
