| You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? | Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. | Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. |

| All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. | But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. |
| But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. | But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. |

| So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. |
| But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. | But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. |
| But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. | This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’ | After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. |
