But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. The vine dries up; the fig tree languishes. Pomegranate, palm, and apple, all the trees of the field are dried up, and gladness dries up from the children of man.
