Bible Verses about 'Sacrifice'
- To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. - Go and learn what this text means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.
- But I with hymns of praise
will offer sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will fulfill.
Salvation comes from the Lord. - My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a contrite and humble heart, O God,
you will not spurn. - And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a sacrificial offering whose fragrance is pleasing to God.
- Therefore, brethren, I implore you by the mercies of God to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and acceptable to God—a spiritual act of worship.
- He is himself the sacrifice for our sins—
and not only for our sins
but also for the sins of the whole world. - This is what love is:
not that we have loved God,
but that he loved us
and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. - So Christ, having been offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him.
- No one can have greater love
than to lay down his life for his friends. - And ‘to love him with all your heart, and with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself,’ is worth more than any burnt offerings and sacrifices.
- Now in regard to the eating of meat sacrificed to idols, we know that idols are nothing in the world and that there is only one God.
- For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
- For I handed on to you as of primary importance what I received: that Christ died for our sins, in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried and that he was raised to life on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
- He gave himself for us in order to deliver us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people as his own who are eager to do good.
- Therefore, by a single offering he has made perfect forever those who are being sanctified.
- For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they placed it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. Then, bending the knee before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
- He did not spare his own Son but gave him up for all of us. How then can he fail also to give us everything else along with him?
- How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from acts that lead to death so that we may worship the living God.
- At the appointed time, while we were still helpless, Christ died for the ungodly.
- O Lord, at daybreak you hear my voice;
at daybreak I bring my petition before you
and await your reply. - Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your crops. - Nor should you present any part of your body as an instrument for wickedness leading to sin. Rather, present yourselves to God as having been raised from death to life and the parts of your body to God as instruments for righteousness.
- In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served but rather to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be poured out for you.”
- However, if we live in the light
as he himself is in the light,
then we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus his Son
purifies us from all sin. - Abba, Father, for you all things are possible. Take this cup from me. Yet not my will but yours be done.
- I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd
lays down his life for the sheep. - Then he took a cup, and after offering thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from this, all of you. For this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.”
- He cried out, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And with these words he breathed his last.
- Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised to life.
- Prepare in advance what you want to say,
and return to the Lord.
Say to him, “Take away all guilt
and give us what is good,
so that we may present as offerings
the bullocks from our stalls.” - If I give away everything to feed the poor
and hand over my body to be burned,
but do not have love,
I achieve nothing.
