Bible Verses about 'Self'

  • Like a city breached, without walls,
    is one who lacks self-control.
  • For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
  • For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love.
  • Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator.
  • By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
  • Athletes exercise self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one.
  • Do not deprive one another except perhaps by agreement for a set time, to devote yourselves to prayer, and then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
  • So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day.
  • For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly.
  • For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.
  • Do not adorn yourselves outwardly by braiding your hair, and by wearing gold ornaments or fine clothing; rather, let your adornment be the inner self with the lasting beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God's sight.
  • One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and one whose temper is controlled than one who captures a city.
  • For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.
  • The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers.
  • For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind.
  • Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour.
  • He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
  • Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.
  • Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.
  • And it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
  • Also that the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God.

A fool despises a parent's instruction,
but the one who heeds admonition is prudent.
