Spirit (2/4)

  • This is how we can be certain
    that we abide in him
and that he abides in us:
he has given us a share in his Spirit.
  • Do you not realize that you are God’s temple, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
  • I myself did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest
is the one who is to baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
  • There is one body and one Spirit, as well as one hope to which you have been called by your vocation.
  • My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a contrite and humble heart, O God,
    you will not spurn.
  • Teach me to do your will,
    for you are my God.
Let your gracious Spirit lead me
    along a level path.
  • I will put my Spirit in you and make you follow my statutes and my ordinances.
  • The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
  • And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God who has marked you with his seal for the day of redemption.
  • Stay awake and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak.
  • Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which separated and came to rest on each one of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to do so.
  • As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit descended upon them just as it had upon us at the beginning.
  • Jesus said,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
no one can enter the kingdom of God
unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”
  • He cried out, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And with these words he breathed his last.
  • This is the Lord’s message to Zerubbabel: Not by force, nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
  • Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, where he was tempted by the devil. During that time he ate nothing, and at the end of it he was famished.
  • Do not be lacking in zeal, but serve the Lord with spiritual fervor.
  • For I know that through your prayers and with the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will result in deliverance for me.
  • And we are witnesses to these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.
  • When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
  • Beloved,
    do not trust every spirit,
    but test the spirits
to see whether they are from God.
    For many false prophets
have gone out into the world.
  • A man’s pride will bring him low,
but lowly souls will rise to honor.
  • The desires of the flesh result in death, but the desires of the Spirit result in life and peace.
  • Can anyone withhold the water of baptism from these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?
  • Until a spirit from on high
    is poured out upon us,
and the wilderness becomes an orchard
and the fruitful field becomes a forest.

When the Advocate comes
whom I will send you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father,
he will testify on my behalf.

Bible verse of the day

Behold, he is coming with the clouds;
every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him.
All the peoples of the earth will mourn him.
So shall it be. Amen.
